Every Monday, Meshkal compiles a calendar of political, cultural, and economic events taking place in Tunis for the week. No events included appear to require an entry fee except for the annual Carthage Music Festival (JMC). Some events are announced during the week and so may not be included at the time the events calendar is published.

Monday, October 14

11:00 – Press conference by the election observation NGO Mourakiboun on its election observation of the second round of the presidential election, which was held on Sunday. Location: Hotel Africa.

XX:XX – The annual Carthage Music Festival (JMC) continues throughout the week. JMC began last Friday, and features artists from around the world and different styles of music. For full information of times and performances see the official website.

Tuesday, October 15:

17:00 – Opening of art exhibit “Who Am I?: A Voices of Memory Exhibition” hosted by the International Center for Transitional Justice. Art on display has been produced by young Tunisians and looks at social issues. The exhibition will run until Monday, October 20. Location: Palais Kheireddine, the medina.

18.00 – Green Lecture #4: Gender and Climate in Tunis. Discussion addressing the gender imbalance of the effects of climate change, and the effective integration of gender roles and social relations in climate action. Location: Culture City.

Wednesday, October 16:

14.00 – Rosa Luxembourg Foundation presents Mouloudi Kassoumi’s book The Rules of Sociological Language in the Works of Hédi Tamoumi. Location: National Library – Habiba Messika Hall

Thursday, October 17:

18.30 – Premier of the International Anti-Corruption Film Festival – RIFAC (French Acronym). Second edition of this film festival, premiering on Thursday. The festival proposes to use cinema as a “reflection vehicle” and “critical debate” on the issue of anti-corruption. The festival continues on Friday, 09.00 – 20.00; Saturday 11.00 – 20.00, and Sunday, 18.30 – 20.30. Location: Culture City

Friday, October 18:

15.00 – Forum on the topic of “Combatting Terrorism and Respect for Human Rights Principles”. Hosted by the Democratic Transition and Human Rights Support “DAAM” with the support of the European Foundation for Democracy. Experts from Tunisia, Egypt and Libya will discuss attacks on human rights and the importance of protecting them. Location: Majestic Hotel
