Every Monday, Meshkal compiles a calendar of political, cultural, and economic events taking place in Tunis for the week. No events included appear to require an entry fee. Some events are announced during the week and so may not be included at the time the events calendar is published.

Monday, December 9:

9:00 – A plenary (full) session of parliament is scheduled to be held to discuss a law relating to the 2020 budget and to create a commission to investigate a recent deadly bus accident, according to Marsad Majles, the parliamentary watchdog project of NGO Al Bawsala.

9:30 –  A debate is being held on the topic of violence against women with the particular focus on Women who are migrants.  The debate is being hosted by Terre d’Asile Tunisie and l’ATL MST SIDA Tunis.  Location: 7, Rue El Khalil Menzah 8, the headquarters of l’ATL MST SIDA.

14:00 – A debate is being held on the topic of “Water: A Right or a Commodity?” Hosted by the Tunisian Water Observatory, Nomad08, and in collaboration with the Tunisian Observatory for Food and Environmental Sovereignty (OSAE). Location: Hotel Majestic.

15:30 – A commemoration event is being held relating to the history of Jews in Tunisia. The event will be hosted by the Tunisian Association for the Support of Minorities (ATSM).  Location: Hotel Africa.

Tuesday, December 10:

9:00 –  The main Tunisian chamber of commerce UTICA is hosting a seminar on the UN’s sustainable development goals and how they relate to private sector. Location: UTICA headquarters.

16:00 – A debate is being held on the topic “Migration Through the Prism of Human Rights,” hosted by the Dutch Embassy and l’Association Terre d’Asile Tunisie. Location: Culture City.

Wednesday, December 11:

8:30 – A debate hosted by the Konrad Adenauer foundation the focus on the theme of work and social rights within the context of human rights.  Location:  Hotel Paris, LAC

14:00 – A conference on capital punishment is being hosted by the International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights Club and the UN High Commission for Human Rights. Location: Law Faculty (Faculté des Sciences Juridiques, Politiques et Sciences Sociales.)

Thursday, December 12:

14:00 – Presentation on a study on gender-based violence, hosted by the Association Tunisienne De Prévention Positive. Location: 9, rue 7444, Aredh Hrichi, Manar I, 2092 Tunis, Tunisia

Friday, December 13:

8:30 – AFTURD and EuroMed Rights are hosting a celebration of the 71st anniversary of Universal declaration of human rights. Location: Hotel Mechtel, Golden Tulip.

Saturday, December 14:

15:00 –  Presentation of the book “Article 230: A History of the Criminalization of Homosexuality in Tunisia,” by Ramy Khouili et Daniel Levine-Spound.  Registration advance is requested. Location: 9, rue 7444, Aredh Hrichi, Manar I, 2092 Tunis, Tunisia
